Born into Brothels Response

Part A

1) Zana wanted to give the children a chance to do something that they normally wouldn't have the chance to do.

2) We can't simply judge all photos by the same criteria, regardless of who took them, because different photographers have different styles. The photographer's point of view is important when discussing pictures because it gives us a sense of where they've been. They get an opportunity that we normally wouldn't have.

3) When Avijit tells us about how he likes to draw pictures and express what’s on his mind, it means that he doesn’t want to just tell us what he’s feeling…he wants to express what he feels through his artwork.

4) “Personal Expression” to me is defining who you are through any form of art. Whether you use photography, writing, or painting, there are many ways to express who you are. You are able to let your feelings out in different ways other than words.

5) Art can serve as an educational form, informing others about, well, pretty much anything really. Art can help people understand things, and even give them a chance to see something they normally wouldn’t.

Part B

i)

I really like this one because of the landscape aspect to it, as well as having the bucket of water right in front of the camera.

I like this one because of the black and white contrast, and the way she's running, it looks like she's going to hide behind the car.

ii)
I find this one to be the most effective, because it shows what their everyday lives are like. In all the pictures you see from places like this, you normally see what people want you to see. When you're looking through the kids eyes, you see more than you normally would.

iii) A picture doesn't need to be beautiful to be effective. If you make it beautiful, it masks the reality of the image.
